During the week of November 20th, Upside went west to connect with the Vancouver tech and innovation community. As a national organization, our goal was to continue building relationships and partnerships with like-minded business leaders to provide a platform for Vancouver-based companies to give back to their local community.

On Monday, November 20th, Upside hosted an event at Launch Academy focused on learning what it takes to build and finance a successful tech company. Brent Holliday, Founder and CEO at Garibaldi Capital Advisors, and a Board Director for The Upside Foundation, and Will Hutchins, Managing Director at Espresso Capital, a partner of Upside, shared their insights on how to set yourself up for success as you launch your company.  Thanks to Launch Academy for hosting us!

On Tuesday, November 21, we were featured at Espresso Capital’s Tech The Halls event, where we shared our vision for embedding philanthropy into Canadian tech and innovation with top investors and leaders in the community.  Thanks to Espresso Capital for hosting us!

On Wednesday, November 22, we hosted a Lunch & Learn to engage in discussions about how to embed a social mission into your business with the community at Spring, a community of social purpose focused business leaders. Thanks to The Amp for hosting us!

Finally, on the evening of November 22, we hosted a pizza and beer dinner event, featuring Jake Tyler, Co-Founder and CEO of Finn.ai, and a Member of The Upside Foundation. Jake shared stories and insights about how Finn.ai has raised over $3M, how they have built a fintech company powered by AI that has customers and partners (and wins awards) all over the world, and why they have prioritized giving back from the beginning.  Thanks to Jake for speaking, and to Wavefront and CBRE for hosting us!

This was a great week for Upside- we had the opportunity to connect with and learn from many leaders in the tech and giving communities in Vancouver.  Thanks again to everyone who hosted us, met with us, or are aligned with our mission of making it easy for tech to give back!
